Antique Moser Cobalt Enameled Covered Compote

$895.00

This is an amazing example of Moser Art Glass. Ludwig Moser & Sons was founded in Karlsbad, Austria, in 1857—today, this Czech Republic city is known as Karlovy Vary. Moser perfected numerous cold-working techniques, from engraving and carving to gilding and painting. We are offering a beautiful Circa 1910, antique example or the quality craftsmanship from the Moser art glass factory.
In its first few decades, no glass was blown or manufactured at Moser. The focus was entirely on engraving and polishing blanks provided by Loetz and other Bohemian glassworks. But by the end of the century, though, Moser had built its own factory and was supplying the highest quality cut and decorated glassware to Franz Josef I, the Emperor of Austria. A commission for Edward VII of England followed in 1908 and for the rest of the century, Moser would produce glass for monarchs, maharajahs, and popes. This is a beautiful paneled cobalt blue covered compote or jar. The bottom section has double oval clear panels above and below are circular amber colored panels. The cover has six oval amber panels that correspond with the panels on the base. Inbetween all the panels are a gold enameled decor that accents the deep cobalt blue background. This beautiful piece measures 6 3/4 inches to the top of the cover and 3 1/2 inches at the widest part of the bottom section. This is an exquisite example of fine art glass created by Moser from an elegant bygone era.
