Antique Repousse Silver Lady's Eye Glass Chantlaine

$895.00

This is an amazing piece of antique silver. It is a lady's chantlaine for holding her wire framed eye glasses. The front is completely chaste in a very ornate and beautiful design depicting a bird and floral motif. The top section or clip would go on a lady's sash or belt with the bottom section hanging down holding the glasses. The back is fully hallmarked, and incised J.L. 2 Charlotte Square Edinburgh, please refer to photos. The hallmarks reveal this piece to be sterling and made in 1903 in Edinburgh, Scotland. There are sterling chains attaching the clip to the holder. It measures 6 1/2" long with the clip inserted and 10 1/2" long fully extended by 1 3/8" wide. This beautiful piece has developed a great patina over a century and appears to have never been polished. The front is in excellent original condition and the back of the bottom section does have some minor dents which can only be expected as this piece was used, again please refer to photos. I think this is a wonderful find and would make a valuable addition to a chantelaine or rare silver collection.
