Circa 1870 Ornate Victorian Walnut Hanging Magazine Rack
This is an exceptional piece from the Victorian Era. It is Circa 1870 and is a beautiful carved wall hanging walnut cantebury or magazine holder. The walnut back is carved in a leaf motif with a crosshatch design. The front section opens forward and is held in place by two chains. The front section has exceptional applied burl walnut appliques with an ornate rosette in the upper center. This decoration frames an oval needlepoint of a Victorian Manor House with trees and deer on the front lawn. The needlepoint is framed under glass within the walnut and is in excellent condition The discoloration or light spots on the needlepoint in the photos are from shadows and reflections from the camera. The entire piece measures 25" from top to bottom and 17 1/2" at the widest part of the back design. It retains the original finish showing only minor wear for the age of the piece. This is a very beautiful example of fine craftsmanship from an elegant bygone era.
