J.E.Caldwell Sterling Repousse Chocolate Pot

This is a very beautiful example of American 19th century sterling silver. It is a highly decorated chocolate pot signed J.E.Caldwell, Sterling on the base. The company was founded at 163 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, by watchmaker James Emmot Caldwell in 1839. In 1843 the firm became the partnership of Bennett & Caldwell, then in 1848 was renamed J.E. Caldwell & Co. It produced its own silverware until the early 1850s. This beautiful piece has a flower shaped finial to the lid with a covered spout. The design is an all over floral repousse decoration with a round tapering original handle. It measures 8 inches to the top of the floral lid and 4 1/4 inches across the diameter of the base. It weighs 588 grams. This piece has been professionally polished and is in excellent original condition. This is a lovely example of 19th century silver from an elegant bygone era.
