This pendant is a magnificent example of Circa 1900 / 1910 Edwardian jewelry. The pendant is platinum with an 18k gold backing. It is set with a spectacular oval opal. The opal is in a beautiful setting with a multitude of accent single cut mine cut diamonds. Set on each side of the opal is an accent sapphire. The design is completely Edwardian in the shape of a stylized shield. Even the bale is original and also set with mine cut diamonds. The shield from the bale to the bottom point of the design measures 2 3/4 inches and 1 3/4 inches at the widest part of the bottom of the design. The opal has exquisite fire and measures 1 3/8th inch by 1 1/8th inch. The white 14k gold chain is a vintage piece but not of the period and measures 18 inches in length. This is the finest piece of Edwardian jewelry that we have had in our possession in a long time.
