Museum Quality 18K Carved Coral Brooch Set With Gemstones
This is an exceptional and rare vintage stamped 18K white gold custom brooch which can also be worn as a pendant. This magnificent piece is absolutely outstanding. It is beautiful angel skin carved coral with a bird and floral motif. The bird's eye is set with a ruby. Set in the center of several of the coral flowers are accent pearls. To the left side of the brooch is a dragonfly extended off of the last flower as if it had just landed on the petal. The body is diamonds and the wings are blue sapphires. On the opposite side, extended off of the end floral section is a butterfly which also appears to have just landed on a petal. The body of the butterfly is diamonds and the wings are pink sapphires with the eyes being rubies. On each side of the coral bird are snakes climbing over in opposite directions. Both are set with green grossularite garnets and the snake climbing down the left front has ruby eyes. The other snake has climbed partially over the top section displaying only the body. This piece is beyond my range of adjectives to describe the breathtaking appearance. The entire piece is fluid with motion and is a true credit to the designer. It measures 3" from the tip of the dragonfly's wing to the tip of the butterfly's wing by 1" at the widest part of the coral carving. This museum quality one-of-a-kind piece is in excellent original condition. We wish we knew who created this lovely and elegant brooch, however the only markings on the back are 750, the mark for 18K gold. This piece is accompanied by a current appraisal by World Gemological Services of Newport Beach, California with a replacement value of $13,916 and is meant for the discriminating collector.
