Very Rare Circa 1880 Victorian M.O.P. Inlaid Sewing Cabinet
This is without a doubt one of the finest antique sewing cabinets. It is Circa 1870/1880 and is heavily embellished with a floral motif inlaid with M.O.P. and an ornate hand painted gold leaf design. The cover has a beautiful hand painted scene of a mother dog with her pups. The top is hinged and opens to reveal several compartments where various sewing implements would have been contained. The front has two doors that open to reveal 5 drawers. The first 4 are velvet lined and contain a few of the original sewing implements. The bottom drawer is a big surprise as it is a lady's writing desk. The drawers have ornate carved M.O.P. pulls, two of which are missing. This cabinet measures 13 inches tall by 11 inches wide at the base and 9 1/4 inches deep at the base. The cabinet is quite heavy weighing approximately 11 1/2 pounds. Condition Report: The exterior is in quite excellent condition showing minor signs of wear. The painting of the dog on the cover shows white spots in the photos that are not as pronounced in realty but are slight blemishes in the painting. The interior shows various signs of wear which is expected with a piece that was used and well over 100 years old and still retains a few original sewing pieces. This was really a great find and a rare collectible for the sewing enthusiast. This sewing cabinet is a charming piece from a more elegant bygone era.
